The long running collective Asylum Street Spankers are an underground institution widely considered one of the most interesting and entertaining live acts working today. Over the course of 15 years the Spankers have released a diverse range of albums, thematically shifting from one of the most highly honored children's album of the last five years, to EPs of explicit bawdy tunes, to an entire album about pot smoking and beer drinking, all the while musically mashing country, blues, folk, ragtime cowpunk and a heaping helping of humor into an inventive, musically ambitious show described by the Washington Post as an "electrifying, mind altering experience."
"One of the best live acts you are likely to see anywhere, and any true fan of music would be a fool to miss them. Their effect on audiences is positively awe inspiring."
—Chris Davis, The Memphis Flyer
"Sets the benchmark for 21st century acoustic roots music. Not unlike the result of combining the ideology and artistry of Willie Dixon, Woody Guthrie, Loius Jordan, Frank Zappa, Lefty Frizzel, Bill Hicks, Rosemary Clooney, The Beatles, Zimmerman, Robert Johnson, Spike Jones, Phil Ochs, Brian Wilson, The Fugs, and friggin' Betty Boop!!"
—Beardo, Folkwax
"A whimsical collision between ragtime, two-step parlor dances, jazz, vaudeville, off-color blues, hip-hop swagger, country and western—that's the kaleidoscopic musical universe of the Asylum Street Spankers, one of the single best live bands you'll ever see."
—Strong Week(Portland)
