There's a reason he's been called Hawaii's Renaissance man: George Kahumoku Jr. is a 4-time Grammy® Award winner in Hawaiian music as well as multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winner. He is a slack key guitar master, songwriter, world-traveling performer, high school and college teacher, artist and sculptor, storyteller and writer, farmer, chef, and entrepreneur. He continues to produce at least one new CD per year, from solo works to his award-winning Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar series, based on his long-running weekly Slack Key Show on Maui with some of the finest performers in Hawaiian music. Always happy to share his knowledge, he runs an annual slack key and ‘ukulele workshop every June.
George’s workshop will take participants through the fundamentals of slack key guitar, including the following classic slack key basics:
1. Slack key ‘Ukulele key of C.
2. Slack key guitar- in taro patch F
3. Hawaiian songs
4. Modulations in taro patch F from key of F to key of C, Bb, key of G, A, Or D.
Students should know how to tune their ‘ukulele or guitar and play at least one song.
