One of the finest guitarists in the world, 6- and 12-string maestro Leo Kottke [web site | Amazon.com], joins forces with one of the most likable singer-songwriters on the American folk scene, John Gorka. Both are masters of their craft and both share a a peculiar sense of humor, which is sure to have the audience laughing between songs.

They're together again in Santa Fe for the first time in over 20 years, when they played one of the most enjoyable shows in memory to an enthralled, sold-out crowd at the James A. Little Theatre.

The evening will consist of two individual full sets with a finale featuring the two together.

Famed acoustic player Leo Kottke is known for a fingerpicking style that draws on blues, jazz and folk music, and for syncopated, polyphonic melodies. Kottke overcame a series of personal obstacles, including partial loss of hearing and a nearly career-ending bout with tendon damage in his right hand, to emerge as a widely recognized master of his instrument. In concert, Kottke intersperses humorous and often bizarre monologues with vocal and instrumental selections from throughout his career, played solo on his 6- and 12-string guitars.

"Leo Kottke is the funniest instrumentalist in the history of recorded music... people will go for the humor and stay for the world-class guitar work." (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

A singer/songwriter famed for his stunningly soulful baritone, New Jersey native John Gorka [website | Amazon.com] is one of the leading lights of the new folk movement. Gorka began his career while attending college in Pennsylvania in the early '80s, appearing at open-mike nights at a local coffeehouse before eventually forming his own group. In 1987, Gorka cut his debut album, I Know, for the Red House label, winning acclaim for his songs' subtle wit and acute observations. In the 1990s, he released several albums on the Windham Hill label. Since returning to Red House in 1998, Gorka has released several well-regarded albums, including The Company You Keep and So Dark You See, as well as Red Horse, a collaboration with his friends and Red House label-mates Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson. Many well-known artists have recorded and/or performed John Gorka songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O'Connell.
