Founded in 1998 by prize-winning documentary film director Shamil Djaparov, Ordo Sakhna is a folk ethnographic theatre aimed at introducing and popularizing the great nomad civilization of Central Asia among audiences worldwide. The musicians promote the beauty and diversity of authentic Kyrgyz instruments and nomad dress style while staging traditional Kyrgyz music and dance. All are graduates from conservatories, and many are laureates of regional and international festivals. The music that Ordo Sakhna has been playing and recording is said to possess a certain transcendental healing quality due to its ancient roots. The group's touring outside of Kyrgyzstan has so far included Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Russia, and this is their first-ever trip to the States.
