Welcome to Domingos en Arte—a summer music and dance series presented by Melaza Music, AMP Concerts, and the National Hispanic Cultural Center. After two preview shows in June, the series will run weekly from July 1 to August 19 in the NHCC's charming Fountain Courtyard. We have invited a wide range of Latin artists for family-friendly summer Sundays that will feature live music, drinks and delicious Latin cuisine. Cash bar and light snacks will be available for purchase from La Fonda del Bosque.
Tickets are $13 in advance, $18 day of show (plus applicable service charges). Admission is free for children 12 and younger; tickets are available online as well as from the NHCC Box Office, in person or by phone at (505) 724-4771.
Calixto Oviedo is a living encyclopedia of Cuban drumming and percussion, from the profound roots of African-influenced folklore to the hottest dance music and the cutting edge of jazz. One of the creators of the dynamic timba rhythm when he was the drummer for the iconic Havana group NG la Banda, Oviedo's innovative and brilliant percussive techniques have made him the in-demand drummer for The Afro Cuban All Stars. Calixto has had the opportunity to play with numerous internationally known artists including Paquito D'Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chucho Valdes, Danilo Perez and many others with a career that spans over 38 years.
