Ukulele Workshop with George Kahumoku Jr. (New Date!)

This workshop will be held in a private residence in the Four Hills neighborhood of Albuquerque.  The address will be provided once you register.

This workshop will be followed by a slack key guitar workshop with Jeff Peterson. Attend both workshops for just $64 (including service charges); buy tickets for both workshops here.

There's a reason he's been called Hawaii's Renaissance man: George Kahumoku Jr. is a multiple Grammy Award winning master slack key guitarist, songwriter, world-traveling performer, teacher, artist, storyteller and writer, farmer and entrepreneur. He hosts a weekly show on Maui called "George Kahumoku Jr's Slack Key Show: Masters of Hawaiian Music," which just celebrated its 16th anniversary. He has recently recorded a new CD, Renaissance Man. He will be touring in January-March 2020 and will hold his week-long Annual Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele Workshop on Maui in June. Around all of this, he cultivates taro and raises sheep on his upland Maui farm.

George's workshop will take participants through the fundamentals of slack ‘Ukulele, including the following classic slack key basics:

1.    Slack key ‘Ukulele key of C.

2.    Slack key ‘Ukulele - in taro patch F

3.    Hawaiian songs

4.    Modulations in taro patch F from key of F to key of C, Bb, key of G, A, or D.

Students should know how to tune their ‘ukulele and play at least one song.
