A LIVE STREAMING EVENT
Add to Cal
This event will be streamed from the AMP Concerts Facebook Page
While all our concerts are on hold, AMP Concerts is reaching out to local artists to give them work and give you entertainment in these difficult times. AMP maintains a fund to pay for community projects, which have primarily been school programs and artist residencies. In this time of crisis, we are using those funds to hire local artists and tech crews to create streaming events—and to act as a catalyst for the community to support art as well.
Everyone performing and working on the show is being paid, as is the otherwise closed Casa Flamenca. There will be no audience, just musicians, sound and video people who will follow social distancing guidelines.
These programs may be cancelled if current New Mexico health guidelines become more restrictive.
Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, AJ Woods has been a part of the Southwest underground music scene for nearly a decade. In that time, Woods has released two full-length albums (S/T, 2013, The Fence, 2016), as well as EPs (Halocline, 2019), singles and live recordings, which have earned him comparisons to Jason Molina, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and Neil Young. Still, "Woods'[s] lyrical style, guitar playing and singing are his own—something that can't often be said." (Alibi) He's played with acts such as Big Thief, William Elliot Whitmore, Julie Byrne and Jim Stallings (aka JJ Light, the former bassist of the Sir Douglas Quintet) among many others. With music and lyrics that are "poignant and powerful" (ABQ Free Press), Woods creates not only songs, but "unpretentious poetry....This guy's for real." (Alibi)
A teacher, a musician, a poet, whatever he is, in times like these, when our sense of reality is shifting and dissolving, Woods' music is a grounding force. It brings us back to the cold, hot, hard, soft, wet, dry earth on which we live and depend, the music; it reminds us that we have hearts, bones that break and heal, blood that can leave us; that we are related to, made and capable of many things. Since the critically acclaimed release of The Fence, Woods has opened for The Handsome Family, toured historic New Mexico adobe churches with A Hawk and a Hacksaw and is currently at work on new music.
