We are excited to collaborate with Outpost Performance Space in celebrating the release of Eliza's new CD Home. Our first post-pandemic show at the Outpost! Eliza has been suffering from long COVID and requests that everyone please wear masks for her show.
Eliza Gilkyson is a twice Grammy-nominated (2006/2015) singer-songwriter and activist who is one of the most respected musicians in Folk, Roots and Americana circles. Her songs have been covered by Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Tom Rush, and Rosanne Cash, and have appeared in films, PBS specials, and on prime-time network TV shows. A member of the Austin Music Hall of Fame, and an inductee into the Austin Songwriter Hall of Fame, she has won countless Folk Alliance and Austin Music aAwards, including 2014's Songwriter of the Year.
On stage, Eliza presents a vibrant spontaneous mix of storytelling with self-effacing humor and tenderness, within a wide-ranging spectrum of human experience, from intimate love songs to political diatribe, accompanied by some of the best players in the world. At this show, Eliza will accompanied by Don Richmond. Don has been a founding member of bands like Tumbleweed and Hired Hands, and currently performs with the Rifters, a New Mexico-based band playing Southwestern Americana. Tumbleweed released four albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Hired Hands released three in the 1990s, and the Rifters are currently working on their seventh. Additionally, Don has recorded seven solo CDs, two with his brothers Ed and Jim (The Richmond Brothers), and two with his friend and business partner David Clemmer (Richmond/Clemmer).
As owner of Howlin' Dog Recording and partner in Howlin' Dog Records, he has recorded and produced or co-produced hundreds of albums for local, regional, and national artists. Along the way, Don has become fluent in guitar (acoustic and electric), banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, and pedal steel, as well as sometimes grabbing the trumpet, accordion, pennywhistle, hammered or mountain dulcimer, percussion, or keyboards for that particular color on a recording project.
