Las Cafeteras

A Fundraiser for Dual Language Education of New Mexico

Str8 Shot

Time: 7:30pm     Day: Thursday     Doors: 6:30pm     Ages: All Ages     Price: $25
This Event Has Ended

This concert is being held as part of the annual La Cosecha Dual Language Conference and will help raise money for Dual Language Education of New Mexico's teacher scholarship fund.

Tickets cost $28 in advance, $33 day of show (including all service charges). They are also available by phone through Hold My Ticket at 505-886-1251.

Las Cafeteras have taken the music scene by storm with their infectious live performances and have crossed many genres and borders along the way. Their electric sound & energy has taken them around the world playing shows from Bonnaroo to the Hollywood Bowl, WOMAD New Zealand to Montreal Jazz, & beyond!

Born and raised East of the Los Angeles River, Las Cafeteras are remixing roots music as modern day troubadours. They are a sonic explosion of Afro-Mexican rhythms, electronic beats and powerful rhymes that document stories of a community seeking to "build a world where many worlds fit."

From Afro-Mexican to Americana, from Soul to Son Jarocho, from Roots to Rock and Hip Hop, Las Cafeteras take folk music to the future.

Las Cafeteras honor the past by using electrifying traditional instrumentation like the 8 string Jarana, 4 string Requinto, Quijada (donkey jawbone) and Tarima (a wooden platform). Las Cafeteras sing in 5 distinct languages, English, Spanish, Spanglish, Love and Justice... and they believe everyone understands at least one of those languages.

Str8 Shot is a New Mexico Music/Variety band based out of Bernalillo. The band was established in 2013 and has been quickly gaining huge popularity due to its unique style and ability to bring life to any venue, from some of the all-time favorite cover songs to forgotten music that has been given the Str8 Shot sound. The band propelled to new heights in 2015 with the release of their first CD El Primero. Str8 Shot released its second CD, Otro Trago, in August 2017. The band stayed true to its unique sound while trying to continue the tradition of New Mexico music.
