AMP's latest residency is with Brazilian artist Luciane Dom. Come out and say hi and welcome her to town! We often make the welcome parties limited to just local musicians, in the hopes that they will be a fun musical exchange and jam session, but we are happy to open this one up to the community too. You'll have a chance to see Luciane perform at Paradiso on June 3 and at Live @ Winrock on June 6.
Multilingual singer, songwriter and producer Luciane Dom is part of a new generation of contemporary artists from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who bring poetic themes such as Black diaspora, feminism, empowerment, as well as social reflections that impact the construction of their emotions.
Possessing a History degree from the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, and Member of the Advisory Board of the US Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, in addition to songwriting workshops, Luciane's multilingual educational work primarily revolves around masterclasses and interactive classes covering traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms including Ijexá and samba.
This residency was made possible by a grant from Mid Atlantic Arts as part of their Performing Arts Global Exchange. Mid Atlantic Arts is funded by the National Endowment of the Arts, so this is the kind of project we are able to do only because the NEA exists and funds thousands of programs around the country every year.
